Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has suspended three senior public officials following a resolution passed by the Benue State House of Assembly.

The affected officials include the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) Chairman, Dr. Grace Adagba; the Executive Chairman of Otukpo Local Government Area, Mr. Maxwell Ogiri; and the Executive Secretary of the Benue State Lottery Commission, Mr. Michael Uper.

The suspension, which will last for one month, takes effect immediately.

The decision was conveyed through a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Sir Tersoo Kula.

According to the statement, Governor Alia’s action is in strict compliance with the resolutions of the State Assembly, which were formally communicated to the government.

By endorsing the directive of the lawmakers, Governor Alia underscored his administration’s respect for the rule of law, due process, and the principle of separation of powers.

He noted that governance in Benue State would be guided by transparency, accountability, and strict adherence to constitutional provisions.

The governor further applauded the House of Assembly for its vigilance and commitment to exercising its constitutional responsibilities.

He emphasized that such synergy between the executive and legislative arms of government is vital to strengthening democracy and ensuring that public officials remain accountable to the people.

Governor Alia also reassured citizens that service delivery would not suffer during the one-month suspension period.

He directed all relevant institutions to maintain seamless operations and urged the public to continue supporting his administration’s reform agenda, which is aimed at building a Benue State that works for everyone.

Meanwhile, the Benue State House of Assembly has taken a firm stance by suspending the screening of commissioner nominees until its resolutions are fully implemented.

This move reflects the legislature’s insistence on compliance with its directives before granting further approvals to the executive arm.

The development has generated widespread public interest, as stakeholders across the state continue to monitor the unfolding relationship between the executive and legislative branches of government.

Political analysts suggest that the decision could serve as a reminder of the Assembly’s growing influence in ensuring accountability within the state’s governance structure.

With these suspensions, the Alia administration has once again restated its position that the business of government must be conducted with utmost integrity, transparency, and in line with the provisions of the law.
