The Anambra State Government has terminated the appointment of eight operatives attached to the Agunechemba Security outfit after they were implicated in the assault and public humiliation of a female corps member, Miss Jennifer Elobor.
The announcement was made in Awka on Wednesday by Ken Emeakayi, Special Adviser on Community Security to Governor Chukwuma Soludo.
He explained that the administration moved quickly once reports of the incident were received, stressing that those dismissed would be handed over to the police for prosecution.
According to Emeakayi, the operatives were allegedly chasing suspected cult members on Tuesday when they descended on the corps member, subjecting her to brutality and stripping her in public.
He emphasized that the Soludo administration has zero tolerance for unprofessional conduct, brutality or abuse of authority by any security personnel.
“Any operative found culpable of misconduct will face not only immediate dismissal but also criminal prosecution,” he declared.
Despite appeals from the victim’s relatives and officials of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) for the matter to be resolved quietly, the government insisted on pursuing a transparent investigation and ensuring accountability to discourage future misconduct.
To support the victim, the government said it had already paid her medical bills, replaced valuables that were destroyed during the assault, including a laptop and mobile phone, and issued a formal apology to her family, the NYSC and members of the public.
Emeakayi further disclosed that the ugly incident would mark a turning point for reforms within the Agunechemba Security outfit, with the goal of restoring public confidence in community security operations across the state.
“The Soludo administration is fully committed to professionalism, accountability and respect for human rights in every security engagement,” he added.
