The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has issued a firm directive to all Nigerian tertiary institutions regarding the 2025 admission cycle, emphasising strict adherence to a defined timetable.
Under the board’s schedule, public universities have been specifically instructed to conclude their admission processes by October 31, 2025, signalling the board’s commitment to maintaining a structured academic calendar and preventing delays in the commencement of academic sessions.
Also, private universities must finalise their admissions by November 30, 2025, while all tertiary institutions, whether public or private, must conclude their admission exercises by December 31, 2025.
This staggered timetable is intended to ensure a smooth and orderly admission process across the country, minimise administrative bottlenecks, and promote fairness in access to tertiary education.
The directive in JAMB’s weekly bulletin on Monday, August 18, 2025, reflects resolutions reached during the 2025 Policy Meeting chaired by the Minister of Education.
The board stated that the measures are designed not only to stabilize the academic calendar but also to guarantee equitable distribution of admission opportunities among all applicants across the nation.
In its bulletin, JAMB explicitly stated: “Public universities are to complete admissions by 31st October 2025. Private universities by 30th November 2025.
“All other public and private institutions must complete admissions by 31st December 2025.”
The board strongly encouraged institutions to finalise their admissions well ahead of the official deadlines, even if their academic sessions are not set to commence immediately.
According to JAMB, this proactive approach ensures that admission records are properly archived and that no student experiences unnecessary delays in accessing tertiary education.
Furthermore, the board issued specific instructions to institutions conducting post-UTME screenings, mandating that these exercises be completed promptly and efficiently to align with the 2025 admission timeline.
By enforcing these deadlines, JAMB aims to improve the overall administration of admissions, enhance transparency, and reduce the risk of inconsistencies or delays in student enrollment.
