The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) has criticized President Trump‘s recent posts on social media threatening to end mail-in voting and the use of voting machines, deeming his attacks as part of a broader strategy to sow distrust in the electoral system.
According to Sophia Lin Lakin, director of the ACLU’s Voting Rights Project, “mail-in voting remains a vital safeguard of our democracy. It ensures that voters with disabilities, those without transportation access, and others who rely on its flexibility and access can exercise their right to vote.”
The ACLU believes Trump’s attempts to undermine a method he himself uses, are unfounded and unconstitutional.
Lakin emphasized that the organization is prepared to protect mail-in voting in court against such attacks, citing previous experiences in Pennsylvania, Mississippi, and other states.
“Access to mail-in voting is necessary to a fair and inclusive electoral process,” she stressed.

Trump’s pledge to issue an executive order to end this system of ballots and voting machines before the 2026 midterm elections has sparked controversy, with many expecting legal challenges from states.
His long-standing concerns about the security of mail-in voting have been echoed in his recent statements, despite lacking evidence to support his claims.
The ACLU’s stance highlights the importance of protecting voting rights and ensuring the integrity of the electoral process.
As a key component of American democracy, mail-in voting provides an accessible means for citizens to participate in elections, particularly those with disabilities or limited mobility.
Trump’s comments have raised concerns about his intentions and the potential impact on voter turnout and confidence in the electoral system.

In response to Trump’s claims, the ACLU remains vigilant, ready to defend the rights of voters and uphold the integrity of the democratic process.
By challenging unfounded attacks on mail-in voting, the organization aims to ensure that all citizens can exercise their right to vote without unnecessary barriers or restrictions.
