Nottingham Forest have bolstered their squad with the signings of Omari Hutchinson from Ipswich Town and James McAtee from Manchester City.

Hutchinson joins in a £37.5m deal after Forest saw an earlier £35m bid rejected, while McAtee arrives for a fee rising to £30m; both players have signed five-year contracts at the City Ground.

Brentford also pursued Hutchinson earlier in the window but were unable to reach an agreement with Ipswich, McAtee, who had entered the final year of his contract at City, had attracted interest from Crystal Palace and Eintracht Frankfurt before opting for Forest.

Hutchinson’s rise

The 21-year-old Hutchinson first joined Ipswich on loan from Chelsea in 2023, helping them win promotion to the Premier League, before making the switch permanent last summer.

He scored three goals in 32 league appearances last season and leaves the club having registered 14 goals across 82 games in two seasons.

“I’m really excited to be here and can’t wait to get started,” Hutchinson said. “I’ve played at the City Ground a few times and it’s always felt hostile, so I’m looking forward to playing here with the fans behind us. I’m ready for the challenge and will give it my all.”

McAtee’s next step

Midfielder McAtee, also 21, made 34 appearances for Manchester City, scoring seven goals.

He also impressed during two loan spells at Sheffield United, where he played 75 matches, netted 14 times and contributed eight assists.

“I feel ready for a new challenge,” McAtee said. “The club had a great season last year and I want to help build on that. I know the ambition here and I’m excited to be a part of it.”

More business to come

Forest are not done in the market, with a deal worth up to £25m close for Rennes striker Arnaud Kalimuendo.

The club are also pushing to sign ex-Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz from Juventus.

Meanwhile, winger Callum Hudson-Odoi has verbally agreed terms on a new, improved contract at the City Ground.

The double arrival of Hutchinson and McAtee takes Forest’s summer business to five outfield signings, following the earlier captures of Dan Ndoye, Igor Jesus and Jair Cunha.

Their biggest departure remains Anthony Elanga’s £55m move to Newcastle.
