Fulham eye shock move for Manchester United striker Rasmus Højlund

Manchester United forward Rasmus Højlund is facing an uncertain future at Old Trafford after falling out of favour under Ruben Amorim – with Fulham emerging as a surprise contender for his signature.

The 22-year-old Danish striker was left out of United’s squad for Sunday’s Premier League opener against Arsenal, having also been an unused substitute in the final pre-season friendly against Fiorentina.

His omission comes just weeks after the arrival of Benjamin Šeško from RB Leipzig, a move which has pushed Højlund down the pecking order.

Højlund joined United from Atalanta in August 2023 in a deal worth £72m but has struggled to establish himself as a reliable goalscorer.

He netted 16 goals in his debut campaign but managed only 10 last season, falling short of expectations under both Amorim and former boss Erik ten Hag.

While AC Milan and Juventus have been most strongly linked with the striker in recent weeks, it’s been widely reported that Fulham are monitoring his situation.

The west London club could lose forward Rodrigo Muniz before the window closes, and Højlund has been identified as a potential replacement.

United are expected to demand around £40m for the Dane, a fee that would represent a significant loss on their original investment but one that could tempt Fulham if Muniz departs.

The Cottagers began their season with a late 1-1 draw away at Brighton on Saturday, while United suffered defeat at home to Arsenal, the two sides meet at Craven Cottage this Sunday, though Højlund is unlikely to feature.

Instead, the fixture may provide the striker with a closer look at what could become his new home if Fulham’s interest develops further.

For Højlund, a move within the Premier League could offer a shot at redemption after a difficult spell in Manchester – one that has coincided with a turbulent period for the club as a whole.
