Emir of Zuru, Mohammed Sani Sami, Passes Away

The Emir of Zuru in Kebbi State, His Royal Highness Mohammed Sani Sami, passed away at the age of 81.

According to an official statement released on Sunday by the Chief Press Secretary to the Kebbi State Government, Ahmed Idris, the revered monarch died on Saturday, August 16, in a London hospital after a brief illness.



The statement also quoted the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Garba Umar-Dutsinmari, who noted that burial arrangements will be announced later.

In its condolence message, the Kebbi State Government expressed deep sorrow over the passing of the traditional ruler.

It extended heartfelt sympathies to his immediate family, the Zuru Emirate Council, the people of Zuru, and the entire Kebbi State.

“The Kebbi State Government is using this medium to extend its heartfelt condolences to his immediate family members, Zuru Emirate Council, Zuru people, and the entire people of Kebbi State.”

The government also offered prayers, asking Almighty Allah to forgive the late emir’s shortcomings and grant him eternal rest in Jannatul Firdaus.

“May the Almighty Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant him Jannatul Firdaus.”



Born in 1943, Mohammed Sani Sami lived a life of service both to the nation and his people. He began his career in the Nigerian Army on December 10, 1962, and was commissioned as an officer on July 25, 1963.

Over the course of his military career, he held several key positions. Notably, he served as the Military Governor of Bauchi State from January 1984 to August 1985 during the administration of the late General Muhammadu Buhari.

After he retired from active military service, he was appointed Emir of Zuru in 1995, a throne he occupied with dignity and dedication until his demise.

For nearly thirty years, he has played a significant role in promoting peace, culture, and development within the Zuru Emirate and beyond.
