Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has condoled with Chief Yinka Ayefele, the Chairman of Fresh FM, following the tragic fire outbreak that destroyed part of the station’s headquarters in Ibadan on Friday evening.

The governor, in a message issued through his Chief Press Secretary, Dr. Suleimon Olanrewaju, described the incident as highly regrettable and a significant loss to the state’s media landscape.
He explained that Fresh FM had become a household name over the years, serving as a voice for the people and contributing significantly to public enlightenment, entertainment, and cultural promotion.
Makinde expressed gratitude to God that no life was lost despite the extent of the inferno.
He says preserving lives is more valuable than property, stressing that while buildings and equipment may be rebuilt or replaced, human lives cannot be restored once lost.
The governor also encouraged Ayefele, whom he described as a friend and brother with whom he shares a close bond.
He urged the music icon and broadcaster to remain steadfast in his spirit of resilience, adding that his life story has always inspired Nigerians.
“This too shall pass. Fresh FM will bounce back. I am confident that under your leadership, the station will recover and emerge stronger and better than before,” Makinde stated.

The incident occurred at about 7:30 p.m. on Friday when fire engulfed parts of the Music House, a landmark business complex in Ibadan’s bustling Challenge area.
Panic spread across the neighbourhood as heavy smoke billowed from the structure, and flames consumed portions of it.
Staff members, residents, and bystanders were seen rushing to safety, while many others made frantic calls for help.
The fire outbreak disrupted ongoing programmes, forcing Fresh FM to suddenly go off air. Other businesses housed within the Music House also suffered damage.
Eyewitnesses reported that the blaze spread quickly and created moments of confusion as both employees and visitors scrambled to salvage items from the building.
Music House is not only Fresh FM’s operational base but also the hub of Ayefele’s business empire.
It accommodates several other ventures, including his popular Merry Makers’ Band, Tiwantiwa Radio, and Blast FM.
For years, the complex has symbolised Ayefele’s resilience and entrepreneurial spirit, providing jobs for many young Nigerians and contributing to the growth of the state’s creative economy.
Residents of Ibadan and loyal listeners of Fresh FM have since expressed their shock and sadness over the incident, with many taking to social media to share messages of solidarity and prayers for Ayefele and his team.
