‘General Hospital’ star, Tristan Rogers, dies at 79, the Australian actor renowned for his portrayal of Robert Scorpio on the long-running ABC soap opera, General Hospital, has passed away at the age of 79.  His death was confirmed by his manager, Meryl Soodak, who revealed that Rogers succumbed to complications from lung cancer on Friday, August 15, 2025. 

Rogers first appeared on General Hospital in 1980, quickly becoming a fan favorite with his charismatic portrayal of the dashing secret agent-turned-police commissioner.  His character was central to the show’s record-breaking 1981 wedding episode of Luke and Laura, which remains the highest-rated hour in American soap opera history.  Despite being written off the series in 1992, Rogers made several returns over the years, with his most recent appearance airing just a month before his death. 

Beyond General Hospital, Rogers had a prolific career in daytime television.  He appeared in other soap operas such as The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful.  In 2008, he starred in the primetime spin-off General Hospital: Night Shift, where his character faced colon cancer—a storyline Rogers believed could inspire viewers to get tested.   He also voiced Jake in Disney’s The Rescuers Down Under and earned a Daytime Emmy for his role in Studio City. 

Born in Melbourne in 1946, Rogers began his career in Australian television before moving to the United States in 1980.  His early roles included appearances on Australian soaps such as Bellbird and Number 96.  In addition to his acting career, Rogers was known for his philanthropic efforts and his dedication to his family.  He is survived by his wife, Teresa Parkerson, their two children, Sara and Cale, and a grandchild. 


The news of Rogers’ passing has left fans and colleagues heartbroken.  General Hospital executive producer, Frank Valentini, paid tribute, calling Rogers a “one-of-a-kind talent” and expressing that “Port Charles will not be the same without him (or Robert Scorpio).” 

Fans and fellow actors have taken to social media to share their condolences and memories of Rogers, celebrating his contributions to the entertainment industry and his lasting impact on the world of daytime television.

A public memorial service is being planned, with details to be announced in the coming weeks.  In the meantime, tributes continue to pour in, honoring the legacy of a man who brought joy and drama to millions of viewers over the course of his illustrious career.
