Veteran Nollywood actress, Bimbo Akintola, has reaffirmed her commitment to professionalism and integrity in the Nigerian film industry, stating that she has never seen herself as anyone’s rival. With a career spanning nearly three decades, Akintola remains one of Nollywood’s most respected and versatile performers.

Bimbo Akintola, first rose to prominence in Tade Ogidan’s classic film Owo Blow, but her breakthrough came with the English-language title Out of Bounds, where she starred alongside industry heavyweights like Richard Mofe Damijo. Since then, she has delivered remarkable performances in films such as 93 Days, portraying Dr Ameyo Adadevoh in the story of Nigeria’s fight against the Ebola outbreak, and Kemi Adetiba’s To Kill a Monkey, where she played the memorable role of Inspector Mo.
In an exclusive interview, Bimbo Akintola, revealed that her enduring success stems from faith, dedication, and professionalism.
“First and foremost, it’s been God’s grace. Without it, you can’t achieve anything,” she said.
She emphasized that excellence, integrity, and careful role selection have guided her career choices.
“Poorly written scripts, unprofessional teams—no matter the money—those are projects I turn down. Integrity is key,” she explained.
Akintola, also reflected on her academic training in theatre arts at the University of Ibadan, highlighting how it instilled discipline and respect for the craft.
“The show must go on. You must be on time, study your character, respect the director… professionalism is everything,” she noted.

Despite the growing influence of social media personalities and crossover celebrities in Nollywood, Akintola maintains that talent and preparation remain the industry’s core pillars.
She praised new-generation actors such as Zara Ejoh, Iyabo Ojo, Toyin Abraham, and Dayo Amusa for their exceptional skills, emphasizing mentorship and ethical guidance for emerging actors.
On matters of rivalry and relationships within Nollywood, Akintola, was candid: “Women are the devil? I’ve never been anyone’s rival, and I never will. Integrity, respect, and collaboration are far more important than competition.”
She also shared personal insights about love and marriage, explaining her selective approach to relationships and the importance of finding a life partner aligned with her values.
Looking ahead, Akintola, hinted at upcoming projects, including productions she has spearheaded, such as Circle of 3, and plans for a YouTube channel aimed at building a creative library of content.
Her advice to young aspirants remains clear: follow auditions, engage with reputable directors, and cultivate talent ethically.
“If you are good, you will be called. The industry is full of opportunities for those with skill and integrity,” she said.
