Abuja to host Crown Elite Basketball All-Star weekend

Nigeria’s capital city Abuja will welcome some of West Africa’s top basketball talent later this month as the Crown Elite Basketball All-Star Weekend takes centre stage from August 22 to 24, 2025 at the Mo Arena Sports Hall.

The three-day event, organised by Crown Elite Sports, marks the company’s first foray into Nigeria’s capital after more than 12 years of staging basketball programmes across the country.

According to the organizers, the event promises a blend of elite competition, entertainment, and celebration of the sport’s growth.

“We are truly excited to bring the Crown Elite All-Star event to Nigeria’s vibrant capital city. This edition promises to be thrilling, as it not only celebrates the heart of basketball in our nation but also emphasises the importance of education among athletes,” said Hanson Oguche, president and founder of Crown Elite Sports.

Weekend Highlights

August 22: Exhibition games featuring six clubs, including Nile University (NUGA champions), Gboko City Chiefs, Mo Heat Basketball Club, Royal Aces, and Air Warriors, with sponsorship support from Hotcoal Basketball Foundation.

August 23: Main All-Star Games – The Sahel Conference Co-Ed Select Team, coached by Nile University’s Hamza Abubakar, will face the Oceanic Conference Select Team, led by Ogoh Odaudu (Rivers Hoopers and 2024 BAL Coach of the Year, also Nigeria’s national team coach).

Legends Match – ABU Kings Alumni will take on a Rest of World Veterans Select Team.

Fan-favourite contests, including the slam dunk and three-point shooting competitions.

August 24: An invite-only VIP Awards Gala, honouring outstanding players, coaches, officials, and stakeholders in Nigerian basketball.
