The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed that it is fully prepared for the by-elections scheduled to take place this Saturday in 16 constituencies spread across 12 states of the federation.
These elections, which come amid heightened political activities, will conclude campaign efforts by midnight on Thursday, in accordance with the electoral timetable.

According to the electoral body, voting will be conducted in two senatorial districts located in Anambra and Edo States; five federal constituencies in Edo, Jigawa, Kaduna, Ogun, and Oyo States; as well as nine state constituencies in Adamawa, Anambra, two in Kaduna, Kano, Kogi, Niger, Taraba, and Zamfara States. In addition, court-ordered re-run elections are set to hold in Enugu South I State Constituency and the Ghari/Tsanyawa State Constituency in Kano State.
In a statement issued on Thursday, INEC’s National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, disclosed that all logistics required for the polls have been secured.
He explained that non-sensitive materials have already been delivered to the respective states, while election technologies, including the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS), have been fully configured for use. The final batch of sensitive election materials, he added, would be dispatched as scheduled before the commencement of voting.
“With less than 48 hours to the start of polls, the Commission appeals to all participants—political parties, their candidates and agents, voters, observers, the media, and security agencies—to strictly comply with the law, regulations, and guidelines governing the process,” Olumekun said. “We urge all stakeholders to refrain from actions that could compromise the exercise, so that the people’s mandate will be respected.”

Beyond the by-elections, INEC also revealed plans to resume the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise in the coming days. The online pre-registration portal will reopen on Monday, August 18, 2025, followed by the commencement of physical registration on Monday, August 25, at 811 designated centres nationwide.
This initiative is expected to provide eligible Nigerians another opportunity to register and update their voter information ahead of future elections.
