A violent attack in Ayede Ogbese, located in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State, left one man dead and a woman abducted on the night of Thursday, August 14, 2025.

The tragic incident occurred around 8:30 p.m., causing widespread fear and tension in the community.

The deceased, 34-year-old Okudili Okoro, was reportedly shot by the gunmen and died instantly at the scene. The attackers also forcibly took Mrs. Orogun, whose whereabouts remain unknown as police continue their search. Eyewitnesses described the assailants as a group of approximately ten heavily armed men.

Residents reported that the gunmen arrived in two unregistered vehicles. One was a silver-colored EOD car, which fled toward Akure after the attack, while the second, a grey Toyota Camry, sped off in the direction of Owo.

The sudden violence immediately stirred anger among local residents, who responded by blocking the highway in protest. This spontaneous action brought traffic to a standstill and highlighted the community’s frustration over recurring security concerns in the area.

Ondo State Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, confirmed the attack and stated that he had ordered all tactical commanders and security personnel in the area to mobilize immediately. He emphasized that efforts were underway to secure the safe release of the abducted woman and apprehend the perpetrators.

Visiting the scene on Friday morning, Commissioner Lawal appealed to residents to cooperate with the police by providing any information that could help identify the attackers. He reassured the public that the police are fully committed to restoring security in Ayede Ogbese and bringing those responsible for the attack to justice.

The incident has once again raised concerns about public safety in Ondo State, particularly in Akure North Local Government Area, as communities call for more proactive measures to prevent such violent acts.

Security experts have urged the government and law enforcement agencies to intensify patrols, monitor escape routes, and engage local communities in intelligence-sharing to curb criminal activities.
