Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has reiterated his determination to maintain a transparent approach to security financing, insisting that his administration will continue to operate without the conventional “security vote” system.
Speaking through his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, on Friday, the governor emphasized that Osun State does not maintain any hidden or discretionary funds often associated with security votes in Nigeria. Instead, all expenditures on security matters are fully integrated into the state’s regular budget and strictly follow legal and regulatory procedures.
Governor Adeleke explained that spending on security covers several areas, including operational support for law enforcement agencies, interventions to resolve communal conflicts, funding community peace initiatives, and maintaining the state’s Amotekun security outfit. He stressed that every financial transaction goes through formal approval channels, including memo submissions and adherence to government payment protocols.
“I am proud to state that Osun under my administration does not operate a slush fund disguised as a security vote,” Adeleke said. “All security-related needs are addressed through proper legislative and administrative processes. While this policy has faced some opposition, I remain committed because it is the right thing for the state.”
The governor noted that the policy was informed by the fiscal realities he encountered upon assuming office in November 2022. According to him, Osun requires careful allocation of its resources to meet developmental priorities. Revenues from FAAC allocations and internally generated funds are directed toward essential sectors, including infrastructure, healthcare, agriculture, and social welfare programs.
Adeleke further highlighted that the state also prioritizes payment of workers’ salaries, pensions, and clearing of outstanding arrears. He noted that his administration strives to balance investment in human capital and infrastructure, achieving measurable results in under three years, recognized by both local and national stakeholders.
The governor reiterated that his administration’s approach to security funding remains rooted in transparency, accountability, and prudence, ensuring that public resources are efficiently used to enhance both safety and development across Osun State.
