These appointments are pending confirmation by the Senate in accordance with the provisions of the FCCPC Act of 2018, which governs the powers, functions, and appointment procedures of the Commission.

Louis Odion, a native of Edo State, brings decades of experience in journalism, governance, and public administration. He is a seasoned media professional and was previously appointed as Senior Technical Assistant on Media to Vice President Yemi Osinbajo. Earlier in his career, he also served as Commissioner for Information in Edo State, where he played a pivotal role in public communication, policy advocacy, and media strategy.

Odion’s academic background is equally impressive. He holds a Master’s degree in Modern War Studies from the University of Buckingham, United Kingdom, equipping him with strategic analytical skills, and another Master’s degree in International Law and Diplomacy from the University of Lagos, which provides a strong foundation in governance, international relations, and regulatory frameworks. His combination of media expertise, public service experience, and academic qualifications positions him to lead the operational functions of the FCCPC effectively.

Ummusalma Isiyaku Rabiu

Ummusalma Isiyaku Rabiu, 35, from Kano State, is a committed grassroots politician and social entrepreneur with a strong record of community engagement. She is the founder of the Usir Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering underprivileged individuals and communities through education, vocational skills development, and humanitarian initiatives. Her work has focused on creating opportunities for youth and women, fostering social inclusion, and enhancing community development.

Ms. Rabiu holds a degree in Business Administration, providing her with a solid understanding of organizational management, corporate governance, and strategic planning. Over the years, she has earned recognition for her ability to connect with local communities, advocate for inclusive governance, and champion initiatives that encourage political participation among women and young people. These qualities make her well-suited to oversee the corporate services functions of the FCCPC, ensuring the Commission operates efficiently and effectively.

The appointments of Odion and Rabiu come at a time when the Nigerian government is intensifying efforts to protect consumer rights, promote transparency, and ensure fair competition in the marketplace.

By leveraging their diverse experiences and leadership capabilities, the new Executive Commissioners are expected to contribute significantly to the FCCPC’s mandate, including monitoring business practices, enforcing consumer protection laws, and fostering an environment of fairness and accountability in Nigeria’s economy.

With the Senate’s confirmation, both nominees are poised to bring a mix of professional expertise, strategic insight, and community-focused leadership to the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission, reinforcing the government’s commitment to effective regulation and the safeguarding of consumer interests across the nation.
