The Rivers State Police Command has arrested Pastor Ifediorah Onyeibor after a disturbing video surfaced online showing him allegedly subjecting children to cruel and degrading treatment within his church premises.

The footage, which quickly went viral across social media platforms, depicts minors stripped naked and beaten with palm fronds during what appeared to be a so-called deliverance or spiritual cleansing session conducted by the pastor.
SP Grace Iringe-Koko, the police spokesperson, confirmed the arrest to journalists and provided details of the preliminary investigation.

According to her, Pastor Ifediorah reportedly organized a three-day program for children in his church, which he described as a divinely inspired activity aimed at “spiritual cleaning.”
“Upon receiving intelligence about this activity, operatives from the Rivers State Police Command, acting swiftly and decisively, arrested the pastor along with several church members at the scene,” she explained.
The police have assured the public that a thorough investigation is ongoing to uncover the full circumstances surrounding the incident, determine the extent of the alleged abuse, and identify all individuals involved. SP Iringe-Koko emphasized that updates will be shared with the public as new information becomes available.
In a statement, the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga A. Adepoju, appealed to members of the public to remain calm and patient during the ongoing investigation. He urged citizens to report any suspicious activities or concerns promptly to the nearest police station or security agency.
CP Adepoju reiterated the Command’s unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety, protection, and well-being of all residents, particularly vulnerable populations such as children.
SP Iringe-Koko further assured that the Rivers State Police Command will continue to work tirelessly to address any incidents that threaten the safety, dignity, and security of individuals within the state. She emphasized that the Command remains resolute in its mission to uphold law and order, protect human rights, and ensure that perpetrators of abuse face the full weight of the law.
This arrest comes amid growing public concern over child protection in religious and communal settings, highlighting the need for vigilance, community awareness, and strict enforcement of laws safeguarding minors. The Rivers State Police have reiterated that no individual, regardless of religious or social status, is above the law.
