European champions Paris Saint-Germain staged a dramatic late comeback before defeating Tottenham Hotspur in a penalty shootout to win the 2025 UEFA Super Cup in Udine, Italy — denying Thomas Frank a trophy in his first competitive match as Spurs boss.
Tottenham looked destined for victory after goals from Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero put them 2-0 ahead with just six minutes of normal time remaining.

But PSG, still in pre-season mode after losing last month’s FIFA Club World Cup final to Chelsea, struck twice late on — Lee Kang-in pulling one back with a superb 20-yard effort before substitute Gonçalo Ramos headed in a 94th-minute equaliser.

The tie went straight to penalties, where both sides missed early spot-kicks. Vitinha fired wide for PSG, while Van de Ven saw his effort saved by Lucas Chevalier. Mathys Tel also missed for Spurs before Nuno Mendes converted the decisive kick, sealing PSG’s first-ever Super Cup triumph.

Bright Start for Frank, But Painful Finish
Frank, appointed 16 days after Ange Postecoglou’s sacking despite the Australian delivering the Europa League in May, saw his side produce an organised and disciplined display.
Tottenham limited PSG to no shots on target for 65 minutes, defending deep in a back five and threatening at set-pieces — the source of both their goals.
Van de Ven’s opener came just before half-time, pouncing on a rebound after João Palhinha’s effort struck the bar.

Romero’s header from Pedro Porro’s free-kick doubled the lead early in the second half, with Chevalier unable to keep it out despite getting two hands on the ball.

Cristian Romero scored on the same day he was made Tottenham captain
However, PSG’s late rally showcased the resilience that saw them beat Manchester City, Liverpool, Aston Villa, and Arsenal en route to last season’s Champions League crown.
