The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has issued a directive to the Commissioner of Police (CP) overseeing the Airport Command, instructing an immediate and thorough investigation into an incident involving the renowned fuji musician, Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as KWAM 1.

This investigation centers around allegations that KWAM 1 engaged in unruly and disruptive behavior that allegedly obstructed the safe operation of an aircraft at one of Nigeria’s busiest airports.
The incident in question reportedly occurred on August 5, 2025, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport located in Abuja, the nation’s capital. Reports indicate that KWAM 1’s conduct during this event violated the Nigerian Civil Aviation Regulations of 2023, which set out the legal framework to ensure the safety, security, and smooth functioning of aviation activities across Nigeria’s airports and airspace.

Any actions that compromise the safety of aircraft operations are treated with utmost seriousness given the potential risks involved to passengers, crew, and airport staff.
This investigation was initiated following an official petition submitted by the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), the regulatory body responsible for overseeing and enforcing aviation standards and compliance within the country.
According to a statement released by the Force Public Relations Officer, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Nigeria Police Force received a formal complaint from the NCAA detailing the incident and requesting that the police intervene to establish the facts and ensure that appropriate action is taken.
DCP Adejobi emphasized the importance of the matter, stating, “The Nigeria Police Force has received an official petition from the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority concerning an incident involving Mr. Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, also known as KWAM 1.

“Following this, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has promptly ordered the Commissioner of Police in charge of the Airport Command to commence a detailed and exhaustive investigation into the circumstances that led to this unfortunate incident. The primary objective is to uncover all relevant facts and ensure that justice is served in accordance with the law.”
In addition to addressing this specific incident, the Nigeria Police Force reaffirmed its commitment to upholding the highest standards of safety and security within Nigeria’s aviation sector.
The Force also pledged to strengthen its collaboration and partnership with all stakeholders in the aviation industry—including regulatory bodies, airport management, airlines, and security agencies—to promote a safer environment for air travel.
Strict enforcement of aviation laws and regulations remains a top priority, as these measures are crucial for protecting lives and maintaining public confidence in the country’s aviation infrastructure.
The Nigeria Police Force urges all members of the public, particularly those involved in aviation activities, to respect and comply with the rules and regulations governing air travel, as violations can have serious consequences.
The ongoing investigation into the alleged obstruction by KWAM 1 will be conducted transparently, and the Force assures that appropriate legal measures will be taken based on the findings.
