Nigerian media personality and actress Toke Makinwa has found strong allies in the entertainment industry after facing online criticism over her pregnancy announcement. Popular Nollywood stars Funke Akindele and Toyin Abraham, along with award-winning singer Tiwa Savage, have publicly defended her against a troll questioning the authenticity of her pregnancy.

The controversy began shortly after Toke Makinwa shared a heartfelt Instagram video revealing her baby bump and describing the experience as “the biggest project of my life.” In the emotional post, the 40-year-old media star thanked God for blessing her with the gift of motherhood, expressing gratitude for the long-awaited chapter in her life.
While the announcement attracted thousands of congratulatory messages from fans, friends, and industry colleagues, one social media user left a comment suggesting that the pregnancy might be artificial or the result of surrogacy.
“Why do I feel it’s artificial and low-key a surrogate? However, if I’m feeling good, congratulations to her,” the troll wrote.
The comment did not go unnoticed. Toyin Abraham was quick to react, responding in Yoruba with a strong curse:
“Some of you will suffer from your generation till your last generation. Ẹ̀gún ò ní kúrò lórí ẹ, abasha yamayam.”
Fellow Nollywood powerhouse Funke Akindele also condemned the troll, calling them “Oloriburuku” — a Yoruba insult meaning “worthless person” or “ill-fated.”
International Afrobeats star Tiwa Savage took a slightly different approach, urging the individual to retract the statement:
“You should probably delete your comment. Please just delete.”

Toke Makinwa’s pregnancy reveal has been one of the most talked-about celebrity stories of August 2025. Known for her glamorous lifestyle, entrepreneurial ventures, and candid conversations on personal growth, Toke has been open in past interviews about her desire for motherhood and her openness to options such as adoption or surrogacy.
Her announcement was met with widespread excitement across the entertainment industry, with many celebrities posting supportive messages and congratulating her on finally entering this new phase of life.
However, the negative comment served as a reminder of the persistent scrutiny female celebrities face over their personal lives. The swift and public defense from industry peers highlights an ongoing push within Nollywood and Nigerian entertainment circles to combat online shaming and protect women’s dignity.
Following the incident, fans have praised Funke Akindele, Toyin Abraham, and Tiwa Savage for standing up for Toke. Many expressed disappointment that a joyous occasion was tainted by unwarranted speculation, urging Nigerians to learn to respect boundaries.
Some social media commentators also pointed out that speculating about pregnancy methods can be deeply hurtful, especially to women who have experienced fertility struggles.
Despite the negativity, Toke Makinwa has chosen to focus on the love and support pouring in. In her announcement, she addressed her unborn child with heartfelt words:
“My bug, I cannot wait to meet you. You’ve made me the happiest person on earth.”
Her journey into motherhood is now being celebrated not just as a personal milestone, but also as an example of resilience, patience, and faith in God’s timing.
