NSCDC Arrests 22-Year-Old for Attempted Rape of Two Women Accused of Stealing Pepper in Osun Farm

The Osun State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has apprehended a 22-year-old man for allegedly attempting to rape two women after accusing them of stealing pepper from a farm in Osogbo.

The incident, according to a statement released on Monday, August 11, 2025, by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Kehinde Adeleke, took place in the Ita-Olokan area of Osogbo. Although the farmland where the women were caught does not belong to the suspect, he confronted them, demanding to know why they were plucking pepper without permission.

Adeleke revealed that the suspect threatened to hand the women over to law enforcement agencies unless they submitted to his sexual demands.

“The suspect saw two ladies plucking pepper in someone’s farm and challenged them. He told them they would be handed over to security personnel, and when they pleaded with him, he said the only condition to avoid arrest was for them to allow him to have carnal knowledge of both of them,” she stated.

The statement further explained that the women resisted his advances, leading to a struggle. In the process, one of the women managed to break free and run for safety. However, the suspect overpowered the other woman, physically assaulting her and attempting to rape her.

In his confessional statement, the suspect admitted that he laid on the victim and ejaculated but claimed he did not penetrate her. He said he ended the act prematurely because he feared that the woman who escaped might alert nearby residents or call for help.

The NSCDC emphasised that the act was not only a gross violation of human rights but also an abuse of the situation, as the suspect had no lawful authority to arrest or punish the women. Commandant Igbalawole Sotiyo condemned the incident in strong terms, warning that the Corps will not tolerate such predatory behaviour in Osun State.

Sotiyo reassured residents of the NSCDC’s determination to rid the state of criminally-minded individuals, calling on members of the public to report all suspicious activities promptly to the Command for immediate action. He stressed that security operatives are mandated to protect the lives and dignity of citizens, not exploit or abuse them under any pretext.

The suspect is currently in NSCDC custody and is expected to be charged to court after the completion of investigations.
