The Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, has officially authorized a further extension to the grace period for the enforcement of the Tinted Glass Permit regulation.

This permit is a mandatory requirement for all vehicle owners whose automobiles have tinted windows. Originally set to be strictly enforced at an earlier date, the new enforcement deadline has now been extended to the 2nd of October, 2025.
This decision to extend the deadline comes as a result of a significant and encouraging increase in the number of applications submitted through the official online application portal.

According to a statement issued by the Force spokesperson, Deputy Commissioner of Police Muyiwa Adejobi, this upward trend demonstrates a growing awareness and willingness among the public to comply with the government’s directives regarding vehicle window tinting. The Nigeria Police Force views this compliance positively as it aligns with broader national security and public safety goals.
The extension is intended to provide sufficient time for the authorities to conduct a thorough and rigorous examination of each application. This process involves careful evaluation to ensure that permits are only issued to applicants who fully meet the eligibility criteria set by the Force.
The vetting process is designed to uphold national security imperatives by preventing unauthorized or potentially harmful misuse of tinted windows, which can sometimes be exploited to conceal illegal activities.
In addition to ensuring proper vetting, DCP Muyiwa Adejobi highlighted that the extended timeline will allow for continued enhancements to the verification processes.
Both the digital infrastructure that supports online applications and the physical checks carried out by law enforcement personnel will be fine-tuned to maintain the highest standards of accuracy, transparency, and security. These measures aim to preserve the integrity of the Tinted Glass Permit system and prevent any fraudulent practices or abuse of the permit issuance framework.
The Nigeria Police Force reiterates that the only legitimate channel for submitting applications is through the official government website: https://possap.gov.ng.
The public is strongly cautioned to avoid unofficial third-party agents, intermediaries, or alternative websites claiming to offer the permit application service, as these are unauthorized and may involve scams or unlawful charges.
To further protect citizens, the Police Force encourages everyone to remain vigilant and report any cases of extortion, hidden fees, or unauthorized processing related to the Tinted Glass Permit application.
Such reports can be made directly to the Police through established channels, including the dedicated toll-free hotline number: 09169967000. The Force assures the public that all complaints will be treated with utmost seriousness, and appropriate action will be taken against individuals or groups found engaging in corrupt or illegal activities connected to the permit process.
This extension and the ongoing efforts to streamline the permit application process underscore the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to balancing regulatory enforcement with fairness and accessibility. It also highlights the importance of collaboration between the government, law enforcement agencies, and the public in promoting road safety and national security.
