NPFL: Shooting Stars Mourn Passing of Coach Akin Olowokere

Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) giants Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) has been plunged into mourning following the sudden death of the Club’s Assistant Coach, Akin Olowokere, who tragically collapsed and passed away on the pitch this morning, Monday August 11, 2025.

In an official statement released by the club, 3SC expressed deep shock and sadness over the loss of their beloved assistant coach, describing him as “a dedicated and passionate football tactician” as well as “a mentor, friend, and father figure” to players and colleagues.

Olowokere, who was recently unveiled as one of the new coaches of the Oluyole Warriors after the club parted ways with the Gbenga Ogunbote-led coaching crew, was praised for his compassion, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to the team’s growth and success. “We hope his legacy continues to inspire generations to come,” the statement read.

The Ibadan-based club also extended heartfelt condolences to Olowokere’s family, friends, colleagues, players, and the wider Nigerian football community, assuring them of their prayers and solidarity during this difficult time.

“May his soul rest in perfect peace,” the statement concluded.

The soft-spoken gaffer was for years a regular player with his state club, Sunshine Stars of Akure, Ondo State before taking up a coaching job.

He previously served as an assistant coach with the club, under head coach Edith Agoye.

In honor of the late coach, Shooting Stars have postponed their ValueJet preseason tournament fixture against Abia Warriors earlier scheduled for 4pm today.

“Today’s ValueJet Cup fixture between Shooting Stars and Abia Warriors has been postponed.”

“A new date will be communicated in due course.” The club’s official statement read.
