The Federal Government’s ambitious Renewed Hope Housing Programme is reshaping the socio-economic landscape of Northern Nigeria, with thousands of new homes, jobs, and infrastructure projects underway, according to the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Dangiwa.

Speaking in Abuja, Dangiwa described the housing initiative as “more than just buildings — it’s rebuilding lives, restoring dignity, and creating the foundation for a more secure and prosperous North.”
Under the flagship Renewed Hope City Projects, 4,612 housing units are currently under development — including 3,112 units in Karsana, FCT, and a 1,500-unit Renewed Hope City with an additional 500-unit estate in Kano State.
The Renewed Hope Estate Projects have already delivered 250 homes each in Katsina, Gombe, Yobe, Sokoto, Benue, and Nasarawa — totalling 1,500 completed units. All estates are equipped with modern road networks, solar lighting, water infrastructure, and essential social amenities.
Looking ahead, the Renewed Hope Social Housing Estates plan aims to deliver 100 affordable homes in each of Nigeria’s 774 LGAs, making it the largest low-cost housing drive in the country’s history.
The programme has generated over 152,000 direct and indirect jobs, empowering artisans, builders, and suppliers. Many workers now earn up to ₦150,000 per month, boosting local economies and reducing unemployment.
To drive affordability, the Ministry is setting up building material manufacturing hubs across all regions, cutting costs and reducing dependence on imports.

In a humanitarian push, the Resettlement Scheme for Persons Impacted by Conflict (RSPIC) is delivering 252 homes in Kaduna, Katsina, Zamfara, Kebbi, Niger, Benue, and Sokoto for displaced families.
A pilot site in Tudun Biri, Kaduna, is already under construction for victims of the December 2023 accidental military airstrike, which displaced dozens of families.
“This is housing as healing — helping families reclaim stability and hope,” Dangiwa said.
The National Urban Renewal and Slum Upgrade Programme has completed 150+ projects with 100 more ongoing in urban communities like Tudun Wada (Sokoto), Yankaba (Kano), and Tunga (Niger State). These projects include 71 classrooms, 15 primary health centres, 58 boreholes, and 63 rural access roads, totalling over ₦61 billion in investment and creating 10,700 new jobs.
Dangiwa confirmed plans to expand single-digit mortgage loans and rent-to-own financing, making home ownership more accessible. Analysts say the housing boom, combined with job creation, could stimulate Northern Nigeria’s construction sector, attract real estate investors, and spur ancillary industries such as cement, steel, and renewable energy.
The Ministry plans to scale up with more Renewed Hope Cities in Northern states, full implementation of the 774-LGA housing scheme, and rapid rollout of building material hubs.
“This is a renewal of trust in government and proof that President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda is delivering tangible change,” the Minister concluded.
