The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has issued a firm 48-hour deadline for its Diaspora Front-End Partners (FEPs) to activate their National Identification Number (NIN) enrolment licences on the commission’s newly upgraded diaspora enrolment platform. This directive marks a critical step in NIMC’s ongoing efforts to modernize and secure the identity registration process for Nigerians living abroad.

According to an official statement released on Monday by NIMC’s Head of Corporate Communications, Dr. Kayode Adegoke, the deadline follows the successful rollout of a major system upgrade designed to improve the platform’s security features, operational efficiency, and data integrity. The move is expected to deliver a more seamless and robust NIN registration experience for Nigerians in the diaspora, while enhancing protections against identity fraud.

The commission explained that the upgraded platform will reduce processing times and provide better protection for sensitive personal information. As part of the transition, all Front-End Partners serving the diaspora have been onboarded onto the new system and have undergone intensive training to equip them with the technical expertise needed to manage the platform effectively.

“NIMC recognises the importance of accurate and timely NIN registration for Nigerians overseas. The upgrade reflects our commitment to delivering world-class identity management services and ensuring that no Nigerian is left behind in this digital transformation,” Dr. Adegoke said.

The 48-hour activation window is crucial for partners to comply with the new system requirements and avoid any disruption in service. Once partners activate their licences on the upgraded platform, Nigerians abroad will continue to access NIN enrolment services without interruption.

Acknowledging that system upgrades can sometimes cause inconveniences, NIMC has set up a dedicated diaspora enrolment support team to promptly resolve any issues faced by partners or applicants. Nigerians abroad experiencing difficulties with NIN registration or licence activation are urged to contact the commission immediately for assistance.

While the enhanced system rolls out overseas, NIMC emphasised that enrolment services within Nigeria continue without pause. Nigerians at home and abroad can locate enrolment centres via the NIMC website and modify their NIN data through the online self-service portal.

To further empower NIN holders, NIMC also encouraged Nigerians to download the NINAuth mobile application, available on both iOS and Google Play stores. The app allows users to instantly verify their NIN, control access to their personal information, and enjoy secure identity authentication services. This initiative aligns with the commission’s broader strategy to promote digital identity security and ease of access.

The NIN is a foundational identity document critical to accessing government services, opening bank accounts, obtaining SIM cards, and more. Ensuring that Nigerians abroad can enrol and maintain their NIN securely is vital to inclusive national development and diaspora engagement.

In recent years, Nigeria has experienced rapid growth in its diaspora population, with millions of Nigerians living and working across continents. By upgrading its diaspora enrolment platform, NIMC aims to bridge the gap between Nigerians abroad and their access to essential identity services, helping to integrate them more fully into national systems.

This upgrade reflects global best practices in digital identity management, combining enhanced security protocols with user-friendly interfaces. NIMC’s initiative signals the commission’s readiness to tackle identity fraud, improve data accuracy, and strengthen national security through a unified identity management system.

As the 48-hour deadline approaches, diaspora Front-End Partners are racing to activate their licences and ensure compliance. For Nigerians abroad, this means uninterrupted access to one of the most important identity services offered by the government.
