Senator Aminu Tambuwal, the former governor of Sokoto State, is currently undergoing intense questioning at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) headquarters in Abuja concerning a staggering financial scandal involving the sum of N189 billion.

The anti-corruption agency’s sources disclosed that these enormous withdrawals, allegedly made in cash during Tambuwal’s administration, are in blatant violation of the provisions outlined in the Money Laundering (Prevention & Prohibition) Act, 2022. This law explicitly prohibits such unauthorized cash withdrawals and seeks to curb illicit financial activities.

Reports indicate that Tambuwal arrived at the EFCC complex around 11:30 a.m. on Monday to respond to probing questions related to the case. Since then, he has been subjected to rigorous interrogation sessions aimed at uncovering the details surrounding the suspicious transactions.

Senator Aminu Tambuwal,

An insider from the EFCC confided that the investigation has been ongoing quietly for several months prior to this publicized questioning. They emphasized that the nature of the withdrawals constitutes a serious breach of the law and that the commission is determined to get to the bottom of the matter.

Though EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale has neither confirmed nor denied the arrest, stating that no comments will be made until the questioning concludes, the news has already sent ripples through the political landscape, stirring considerable attention and speculation.

Tambuwal’s political background is notable. He served as Sokoto State governor from 2015 until 2023 and previously held the influential position of Speaker of the House of Representatives.

Now, as a prominent figure and influential powerbroker within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), he joins the growing list of high-profile politicians currently under scrutiny by the EFCC.
