Troops of the 3 Battalion, deployed at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Rann Kala in Balge Local Government Area of Borno State, have successfully eliminated a notorious terrorist commander known as Amirul Fiya, also referred to by his alias, Abu Nazir.
The operation took place during a confrontation with Islamic State West African Province (ISWAP/JAS) insurgents who launched an attack on the community on August 7.

Following a fierce gun battle, the troops recovered the bodies of three terrorists, including that of Amirul Fiya. Subsequent investigations conducted at first light revealed blood trails at the scene, suggesting that additional terrorists sustained injuries but managed to escape.
The military operation also resulted in the recovery of an AK-47 rifle, one unexploded ordnance, two rocket-propelled grenades, and other weapons and equipment.
In a follow-up mission carried out on August 9, soldiers working in collaboration with the Civilian Joint Task Force and Hybrid Force discovered yet another deceased terrorist. During this operation, the troops seized a QJC 88-barrel gun, an anti-aircraft gun tripod, 20 rounds of 12.7 x 108mm ammunition, a backpack, and a bicycle.

Meanwhile, in Zamfara State, troops of the 1 Brigade Combat Team 2 responded promptly to reliable intelligence reports concerning terrorist activities along the Gusau–Kaura Namoda Road in Unguwar Sariki Musulmi, Kaura Namoda Local Government Area, on August 8.
Their swift intervention caused the terrorists to flee, abandoning two kidnapped victims who were subsequently rescued and safely reunited with their families.
Similarly, on August 9, 2025, troops from the 24 Special Engineer Regiment were deployed to Ebonyi State to intervene in a communal conflict between the Iyimagwu and Ekpomaka communities in Ikwo Local Government Area.
During the operation, the troops came under hostile fire from an abandoned building but reacted decisively, neutralizing one armed assailant. This engagement led to the recovery of one G3 rifle, 50 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, 16 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition, and four hand grenades.

These recent military successes highlight the Nigerian Army’s unwavering determination to defend the country’s sovereignty, safeguard innocent citizens, and deny criminal and terrorist groups any opportunity to operate freely.
The Army remains steadfast in its commitment to conducting aggressive, coordinated operations alongside other security agencies to foster lasting peace and security across Nigeria.
This update was provided in a statement released on Sunday afternoon by the acting Director of Army Public Relations (DAPR), Lieutenant Colonel Onyinyechi Anele, who emphasized the military’s resolve to continue its efforts to protect the nation from threats.
