Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has sent fans into a frenzy after being quizzed about Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma during a casual exchange outside Old Trafford.
The Portuguese coach, who took charge earlier mid last season has already overseen a busy summer transfer window with four signings — big-money arrivals Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko bolstering the attack, while versatile defender Diego Leon has added depth at the back.

United chiefs Omar Berrada and Jason Wilcox are now prioritising the addition of a new midfielder before the transfer window closes on September 1. Brighton’s Carlos Baleba, Crystal Palace starlet Adam Wharton and Atalanta’s Ederson have all been linked.
However, uncertainty around Andre Onana’s long-term role has sparked discussion about a potential change in goal. Onana, who joined from Inter Milan last summer, has endured inconsistent form, prompting reports that Amorim would like a goalkeeper more suited to his tactical style.
Donnarumma, 26, has emerged as a possible target. The Italy international played a pivotal role in PSG’s Champions League triumph last season but faces an uncertain future with only one year left on his contract.

The French champions’ recent €40m signing of Lille’s Lucas Chevalier has fuelled speculation the former AC Milan star could be on the move.
United’s ability to make a serious move for Donnarumma would hinge on selling Onana — a scenario sources close to the club consider unlikely in the current window. For now, a midfielder remains the top priority.
Nevertheless, speculation intensified on Saturday when Amorim, while signing autographs for supporters outside Old Trafford, was asked: “Hey Ruben, who we signing? Are we getting Donnarumma?” The United boss initially replied, “Sorry?” before the question was repeated. Amorim chuckled but offered no direct answer — a brief moment that fans quickly interpreted as a possible hint.

With three weeks remaining in the summer window, United’s focus remains on midfield reinforcements, but the door to a blockbuster move for Donnarumma has not been completely closed.
