Former Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido Backs Jonathan as PDP’s 2027 Presidential Candidate, has declared that former President Goodluck Jonathan remains the best choice for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to field as its presidential candidate in the 2027 general election.

Lamido emphasized that Jonathan is the strongest contender capable of challenging and wresting power from the incumbent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television on Friday, August 8, Lamido urged the PDP to make deliberate efforts to bring Jonathan back into active politics.

He stressed that no current PDP member from the southern region could rival Jonathan’s wealth of experience and leadership qualities. According to Lamido, Jonathan is a leader who has previously steered the country effectively, understands the intricacies of governance, and has the ability to work collaboratively with others.

He stated, “Jonathan is most welcome, highly competent, and exceptionally qualified. In my view, within the PDP, and with all due respect to other members, there is no better alternative than Jonathan if he decides to return. If the presidency is to be handed over to the South under the PDP, Jonathan stands head and shoulders above any other contender.”

Lamido further elaborated, “Who else in the PDP can compare to Jonathan’s experience in office? He is a seasoned leader who listens attentively and embraces partnership as a core principle of leadership.”

In a separate strong stance, Lamido called for the expulsion of certain PDP members who he accused of working against the party during the 2023 general elections.

He singled out the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, former Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom, former Abia State Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, and others. According to Lamido, these individuals openly campaigned against the PDP and have indicated intentions to support the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the forthcoming 2027 elections.

He declared, “All those erring members—the Wikes, the Ortoms, the Ikpeazus, and others who actively worked against the PDP in 2023 and have pledged allegiance to the APC in 2027—must be expelled from the party.”

IREPORT247NEWS  reported that a close associate of former President Goodluck Jonathan has disclosed plans for the ex-president to re-enter the presidential race in 2027. This associate, also a member of the PDP, revealed that the campaign to present Jonathan as the party’s presidential flagbearer has gained significant momentum.

The source explained that Jonathan is motivated to make a political comeback due to Nigeria’s worsening economic challenges, increasing poverty rates, and the deepening hardships facing ordinary citizens.

This move is being strongly supported by prominent Nigerian statesmen and political elders who believe that Jonathan’s six-year tenure provided relative economic stability and national unity—qualities they argue are currently lacking under the present administration.
