Troops from the 6 Brigade of the Nigerian Army and Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have successfully rescued seven individuals who were abducted by suspected kidnappers along the Chinkai–Kente–Wukari road in Taraba State. The victims had been kidnapped on Saturday, August 3, 2025.

This was disclosed in an official statement released on Wednesday, August 6, by Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, the Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the 6 Brigade.
According to the statement, the operation spanned two days — Tuesday, August 5, and Wednesday, August 6 — and involved an intensive search and rescue mission carried out by the troops in response to the abduction incident.

During the course of the operation, security forces made contact with the kidnappers in the forest. Confronted by the Nigerian Army’s overwhelming firepower and unrelenting pressure, the abductors abandoned their captives and fled the scene to avoid confrontation.
On August 5, four of the kidnapped victims were located and safely recovered from the dense Chinkai Forest. The remaining three, all female, were rescued the following day, August 6, from the Owedi Community in Wukari Local Government Area.

In his reaction, the Commander of 6 Brigade and Sector 3 OPWS, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, praised the troops for their swift response and bravery during the mission. He described the rescue operation as a significant victory in the ongoing battle against kidnapping and other forms of criminality in the region.

Brigadier General Uwa further reaffirmed the Brigade’s unwavering commitment to maintaining aggressive and proactive operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks and safeguarding the lives and properties of the people of Taraba State.
The Nigerian Army emphasized that the successful rescue of all seven victims stands as a testament to the force’s professionalism, resilience, and dedication to ensuring peace and security across the state.
