The Governor of Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, has commissioned a newly renovated health centre and inaugurated a 4.2-kilometre road project in Igbo-Ukwu, Aguata Local Government Area—an event marked by wide community participation and a strong show of political support.

In a statement released on Tuesday by the Governor’s Press Secretary, Mr. Christian Aburime, the projects were officially launched during Governor Soludo’s working visit to Igbo-Ukwu, where he was warmly received by residents and stakeholders.
The governor’s first port of call was the Primary Health Centre in Obiuno, Igbo-Ukwu. The facility, initially rehabilitated by a philanthropic family and later handed over to the state government, has now been renamed the Comprehensive Medical Centre.

During the inauguration ceremony, Governor Soludo announced that the state would immediately deploy medical personnel, including doctors and nurses, to ensure the centre delivers quality healthcare services. He specifically pledged free antenatal and delivery services for expectant mothers.
Describing the project as a “private-public-community partnership,” Soludo commended the collaborative effort that brought the renovation to life, calling it a clear demonstration of what unity and shared responsibility can achieve in Anambra State.
Following the health centre commissioning, the governor proceeded to inaugurate a newly constructed 4.2km road, a major infrastructure development aimed at enhancing accessibility and economic activities within the Igbo-Ukwu community. The road project, facilitated by Hon. Dom Okafor, who represents the Aguata Federal Constituency, was lauded as a transformative milestone for the area.
The visit culminated in a grand rally at the Central School Field in Igbo-Ukwu, where Governor Soludo and his Deputy, Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim, received a massive endorsement for their re-election bid. The rally, charged with energy and cultural vibrancy, saw songs, dances, and expressions of loyalty from various community members and support groups.
In a striking show of faith in the Soludo administration, the Igbo-Ukwu community presented a cheque of ₦50 million to the governor during the event. This gesture, Aburime stated, was symbolic of the people’s unwavering belief in the governor’s vision for sustainable development and their readiness to invest in the future of Anambra State.
Speaking at the rally, Governor Soludo also used the opportunity to canvass support for Chief Emmanuel Nwachukwu, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate in the forthcoming Anambra South Senatorial Bye-Election. He highlighted the importance of continuity in progressive governance and urged residents to rally behind the APGA candidate.
Additionally, the governor reflected on the completion of the Light House, a landmark project that had taken 34 years to materialize. The Light House now houses the iconic Igbo-Ukwu bronze, a symbol of the community’s rich cultural heritage. Soludo stressed that these projects go beyond physical structures; they are embodiments of the people’s history, identity, and pride.
“We are reviving our heritage to shine for future generations,” the governor stated, expressing his administration’s dedication to honouring Anambra’s past while building a resilient future.
The event was graced by key dignitaries, including the Deputy Governor, Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim; Chief of Staff to the Governor, Ernest Ezeajughi; traditional rulers; and several support groups.
Prominent voices at the rally—such as Barth Nwibe, Dr. Greg Ezeilo, Charles Ezeanaekwe, Dom Okafor, and Sir MCK Ubah—praised Governor Soludo’s impactful leadership. They highlighted notable progress in education, healthcare, infrastructure, and economic reforms, stating that his administration has brought real, measurable benefits to both the Igbo-Ukwu community and the state at large.
Governor Soludo’s visit to Igbo-Ukwu has not only deepened government-community relations but has also rekindled hope, unity, and a shared sense of purpose among residents as they look forward to continued progress under his leadership.
