The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has launched a full-scale investigation into an incident involving iconic Fuji musician, Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as K1 De Ultimate, over an alleged breach of aviation security protocols at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

The incident, which occurred on the morning of Monday, August 5, 2025, reportedly involved an altercation during the boarding process for a ValueJet Airlines flight (Flight VK 201) bound for Lagos. According to an official statement issued on Wednesday by FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Obiageli Orah, the musician allegedly attempted to bring an unauthorized liquid substance onto the aircraft in violation of aviation safety rules.
“Preliminary investigations confirmed that the passenger was scheduled to board the morning flight to Lagos operated by ValueJet Airlines. During boarding, the passenger attempted to carry an unidentified liquid substance on board despite repeated warnings from Aviation Security personnel and the Flight Captain,” the statement read.
The liquid, reportedly contained in a flask, exceeded the allowed limit of 100ml for hand luggage, contravening both the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Annex 17 and Nigeria’s National Civil Aviation Security Programme regulations. The guidelines clearly prohibit carrying liquids over 100ml unless they are for medical purposes and properly declared.
According to FAAN, the musician was informed of the regulation but declined to comply. Tensions heightened when K1 allegedly refused to submit the item for inspection and spilled the liquid—later confirmed to be alcohol—on a ValueJet security officer during the confrontation.
Further disruption ensued when the musician moved to the front of the aircraft and refused to vacate the area, ignoring several directives from both the airline personnel and the Flight Captain. Boarding was subsequently completed and the aircraft door was closed.

Eventually, K1 De Ultimate was escorted off the aircraft by officials of the Aviation Security (AVSEC) crime unit for further investigation. He was later released after preliminary questioning.
FAAN has strongly condemned the act, warning that such disruptions—regardless of the individual’s status—will not be tolerated within Nigeria’s aviation system.
“FAAN reiterates its unwavering commitment to the safety and security of all passengers, crew, and airport personnel. The Authority will not tolerate any action that compromises operational integrity or undermines aviation safety standards,” the statement emphasized.
The airport authority assured that any individual found culpable in the incident will be held accountable in accordance with Nigerian aviation laws.
The incident has sparked reactions across social media, with many Nigerians expressing disappointment over the musician’s alleged behavior, while others have called for calm and a fair investigation. K1 De Ultimate, revered for his decades-long contribution to Fuji music, has yet to publicly comment on the allegations.
Aviation experts say the situation highlights the urgent need for better public awareness of airport security regulations, particularly among high-profile individuals who often assume VIP exemptions.
In recent months, FAAN has intensified enforcement of aviation safety rules following multiple reports of unruly behavior by passengers. Just last month, two pilots were suspended by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) for violating safety protocols, and plans are underway to roll out stricter compliance mechanisms across terminals.
As part of efforts to enhance passenger experience while maintaining safety, the Ministry of Aviation has also promised to introduce free Wi-Fi service at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) Terminal 2 by the end of 2025.
FAAN’s decisive response to the K1 De Ultimate incident reinforces its commitment to global aviation standards and sends a strong message that no individual is above the law. As the investigation unfolds, Nigerians will be watching closely to see how accountability is enforced, particularly when it involves prominent figures.
