Nollywood actress and businesswoman, Iyabo Ojo, has formally submitted a detailed petition to multiple high-level authorities in Nigeria and international human rights bodies, alleging gross misconduct and bias by Commissioner of Police (CP) Uche Ifeanyi Henry, who currently serves as the Director of the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre (NPF-NCCC).

In her petition, Ojo accused CP Uche of failing to maintain professionalism and uphold the rule of law during a recent session in which she was summoned for questioning at the Cybercrime Unit in Abuja.

The incident in question allegedly occurred while she was being interrogated in relation to a cybercrime case involving controversial social media activist, VeryDarkMan (VDM).

According to Iyabo Ojo, during her interrogation, VDM—who himself is a defendant in a separate criminal matter—unexpectedly entered the interrogation room without prior notice, legal justification, or official invitation.

She claimed that VDM’s presence was not only unauthorized, but that he also behaved casually, drinking coffee and eating biscuits, while appearing relaxed and comfortable in what should be a restricted and formal legal environment. She expressed alarm that he was treated like a VIP rather than an individual under investigation.

The actress further alleged that CP Uche granted VDM unwarranted and unlawful access to sensitive areas within the Cybercrime Centre, suggesting a questionable relationship between the senior police officer and the social media figure.

In her words, the police chief demonstrated clear preferential treatment, thereby compromising the integrity and neutrality of the ongoing investigation.

Citing these irregularities, Ojo has called for an immediate and thorough investigation into CP Uche’s conduct. She has also demanded that he be disqualified from overseeing her case or any other related matters in the future. In her petition, she named several recipients, including both national and international authorities, urging swift and impartial intervention.

The agencies and offices listed as recipients of the petition include:

1. Minister of Police Affairs

2. National Security Adviser

3. Police Service Commission

4. Inspector General of Police

5. National Human Rights Commission

6. International Human Rights Commission

7. Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation

The situation has since ignited intense public discourse, especially online, where ongoing disputes between Iyabo Ojo and VeryDarkMan have been playing out.

The latest revelations have further polarized public opinion. Many of Ojo’s supporters are demanding institutional accountability, while others question the neutrality and professionalism of the police, particularly in high-profile cybercrime cases.

As of the time of this report, neither CP Uche nor the Nigeria Police Force has issued any official statement in response to the allegations.

However, attention has now shifted to the oversight bodies listed in the petition, which are expected to determine whether CP Uche’s actions violated operational protocols or ethical standards governing the police force.

This development marks a significant escalation in the ongoing controversy between Iyabo Ojo and VeryDarkMan.

Beyond the central issues of cybercrime and defamation, the incident has sparked deeper questions about power dynamics, law enforcement ethics, access to justice, and the protection of citizens’ rights in Nigeria.
