Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has expressed confidence that the developmental initiatives under his administration will ultimately lead to the collapse of all opposition political parties in the state before the 2027 general elections.

Speaking in Uromi at the official flag-off of the campaign for the upcoming by-election in the Edo Central Senatorial District, Governor Okpebholo described the forthcoming poll as a litmus test for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and a clear signal of the party’s inevitable dominance in future elections, including the presidential contest in 2027.

“This election is our first test ahead of 2027, and I can assure you that it is already a done deal. The achievements of this administration have made it evident that by the time 2027 arrives, there will no longer be any credible opposition in Edo State. Everyone will have joined the APC,” the governor declared.

He also reaffirmed the commitment of his administration to ensuring APC’s sweeping victory in the senatorial by-election. “We will win all five local government areas and secure all 51 wards within the senatorial district. Joseph Ikpea will succeed me in the Senate,” he stated confidently.

Governor Okpebholo used the platform to urge candidates from opposition parties to abandon their aspirations and align with the APC. “It is only the candidates who are yet to defect. I advise them not to waste their money campaigning for a lost cause. If they give you money, collect it—it belongs to us—but make sure you vote for the APC,” he added.

Highlighting the party’s strategic target for the next general elections, he disclosed: “We have pledged to deliver 2.5 million votes to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027, and we are well on track to fulfilling that promise. There’s no need for too much talking—the election is already won.”

In a further demonstration of APC’s growing influence, Governor Okpebholo welcomed several high-profile defectors from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Among them were Alhaji Esiwele Musa, Abraham Osazuwa, Sunny Ejie, and Robert Okoneme, alongside other grassroots leaders from across the 51 wards of Edo Central.

Also addressing the crowd, Edo State Deputy Governor, Dennis Idahosa, called on the people to continue supporting Governor Okpebholo, whom he described as a visionary leader committed to the growth and transformation of the state.
