The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Bauchi State Command, has made significant strides in its ongoing efforts to curb the vandalism of critical national infrastructure.

The Corps has confirmed the arrest of two individuals suspected to be involved in the unlawful removal and transportation of railway materials in Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area of the state.
This development was disclosed in an official statement issued by the NSCDC Public Relations Officer for the state, Saminu Yusuf, in Bauchi. According to the statement, the suspects were apprehended on Monday, July 29, during a targeted operation based on actionable intelligence gathered by the Corps’ surveillance network.
Acting on the tip-off, NSCDC operatives successfully intercepted a white Peugeot J5 bus with the registration number KTG 40 XF. Upon inspection, the vehicle was found to be loaded with 80 units of vandalised railway sleepers, along with four bags of charcoal, which are believed to have been used to conceal the stolen items.

The operation was part of a broader crackdown by the Corps aimed at dismantling networks of vandals who tamper with government-owned infrastructure for selfish gain. The theft of railway materials, such as sleepers, not only disrupts transportation systems but also endangers public safety and hinders national development.
Commenting on the arrest, the State Commandant of the NSCDC, Oloyede Oyerinde, praised the quick response and professionalism of the officers involved in the operation. He noted that their action prevented what could have been a major loss to the Nigerian Railway Corporation and a further weakening of national infrastructure.
Commandant Oyerinde emphasized the Corps’ unwavering determination to ensure the protection of key government assets, including railway tracks, pipelines, power installations, schools, and communication facilities. He stated that the NSCDC remains fully committed to executing its statutory mandate as a frontline agency in the protection of critical national infrastructure and public assets.

He also issued a strong warning to individuals or groups involved in acts of vandalism or sabotage, stressing that such criminal activities will not be tolerated. Offenders, he said, will face the full weight of the law, as the NSCDC continues to intensify surveillance and enforcement measures across the state and the country at large.
Furthermore, Commandant Oyerinde called on members of the public to support the Corps by remaining vigilant and reporting any suspicious movements or activities around public facilities. He encouraged communities to serve as active partners in national security by providing timely and credible information that can aid in preventing crimes before they occur.
The arrested suspects are currently in custody and undergoing preliminary investigation. They are expected to be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation, as the NSCDC works closely with relevant prosecuting authorities to ensure justice is served.
This incident is one among several recent successful operations carried out by the NSCDC in Bauchi and other parts of the country, highlighting the agency’s increasing effectiveness in tackling the menace of infrastructure vandalism.
