A tragic incident has rocked the Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, Edo State, following the discovery of the decomposing body of a final-year student, simply identified as Blessing, five days after she was declared missing.
Blessing, a student in the Department of Microbiology, was last seen on Sunday, July 27, 2025. She was reported missing after she failed to show up for an important examination scheduled for the following day, Monday, July 28. Her sudden disappearance raised alarm among friends and coursemates.
Sources revealed that after her disappearance, messages purportedly sent from her mobile phone surfaced, claiming that she had been kidnapped and that her captors were demanding a ransom for her release. The alarming nature of the messages led many to believe she was being held against her will.
However, suspicions deepened when a close friend—who had initially raised the alarm—allegedly discouraged concerned students from searching Blessing’s residence. The friend’s reluctance reportedly raised eyebrows and fueled anxiety over the missing student’s fate.
Acting on a tip-off, operatives of the Nigeria Police Force launched an operation and eventually stormed her residence. To the horror of all involved, Blessing’s lifeless and decomposing body was found within the compound, suggesting she may have been killed days earlier and left undiscovered.
The Edo State Police Command has since confirmed the tragic development. According to the command’s spokesperson, Moses Yamu, an investigation has been launched to unravel the events leading to Blessing’s untimely death. He assured that the police are committed to getting to the root of the matter and bringing anyone involved to justice.
The shocking discovery has left the university community in deep mourning, with students and staff demanding a thorough investigation. Many have also called on the authorities to intensify campus security and ensure justice for the deceased.
