The Ogun State Police Command has commenced a thorough investigation into the sudden and untimely death of a 20-year-old recent graduate of Information Technology from Babcock University, Ilisan Remo, Ogun State. The deceased has been identified as Akawa Boluwatife Samuel.

According to security sources who spoke with Zagazola Makama, Boluwatife was brought to the Babcock University Teaching Hospital by his roommates in the early hours of Wednesday, July 30, 2025. Upon arrival at the hospital, he was examined by the attending physician and was confirmed dead on arrival. The news of his death has since left the university community in shock, especially among his classmates and faculty members.
Police operatives from the Ogun State Command who visited the scene of the incident have begun piecing together the circumstances that led to the sudden demise of the young graduate. During their preliminary inquiry, one of the deceased’s roommates, identified as Adili Leonard Chimdindu, provided crucial information regarding Boluwatife’s health condition in the days leading up to his death.
According to Chimdindu’s statement to investigators, Boluwatife had complained of feeling unwell on Saturday, July 27. He reportedly experienced cold symptoms and had difficulty breathing. His friends advised him to visit the University Medical Centre for a proper check-up and treatment. However, it remains unclear whether Boluwatife followed through with the advice or sought any medical assistance before his condition deteriorated.

Chimdindu also informed police detectives that he and Boluwatife, along with other colleagues, were still on campus to complete their final clearance process in preparation for graduation. He emphasized that Boluwatife had been in high spirits the night before his death and had shown no visible signs of distress. He spent the evening playing video games on his laptop and interacting with friends up until around 11:00 p.m.
The following morning, however, Boluwatife was discovered unresponsive in his room. His roommates immediately raised the alarm and rushed him to the teaching hospital, but he could not be revived. As part of the investigation, police officers documented the scene and took photographs of the deceased. The statement of his elder brother, Akawa Toluwanimi John, was also taken to aid the ongoing investigation.
The body of the deceased has since been deposited in the university morgue for autopsy and preservation. The autopsy is expected to provide crucial insights into the actual cause of death, especially given the absence of any prior known medical condition.
The Ogun State Police Command has assured the public and the deceased’s family that a full investigation will be conducted to uncover the truth behind the incident. University authorities, meanwhile, have expressed deep condolences to the family and pledged full cooperation with law enforcement agencies in their efforts to unravel the case.

Boluwatife’s death has triggered an outpouring of grief among fellow students, lecturers, and friends, many of whom remember him as a bright and promising young man.
Investigations remain ongoing, and the public will be updated as new findings emerge.
