Jigawa State witnessed a major political shift on Friday as no fewer than 573 members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Sabuwar Dan Masara, located in Dutse Local Government Area, officially defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The defection ceremony was held in the town and attended by party leaders, community stakeholders, and supporters of the opposition.
Leading the group of defectors was Mustapha Adamu, popularly known as “Shugaba,” from Madobi Ward. Speaking on behalf of the other defectors, Adamu cited disenchantment with the APC’s leadership and what he described as the party’s abandonment of fairness and justice.

“We have reached a point where we can no longer associate ourselves with a party that has clearly strayed from its founding principles,” he declared.
“The APC has failed to uphold equity and transparency, and that is why we have chosen to align ourselves with the PDP—a party we believe genuinely prioritizes the needs and welfare of Nigerians.”
Adamu emphasized that their decision was not just a protest against the APC but also a hopeful step toward a better political future.
“We believe the PDP represents a true platform for change. It is a party committed to progress, development, and the restoration of democratic values. We are excited to join forces with the PDP as we work together to build a brighter, more inclusive future for our state and nation.”

He further called on other disillusioned citizens and politicians to join them in the PDP, expressing optimism about the party’s chances in upcoming elections.
“We are confident that the PDP will emerge victorious in the next general elections, and we are fully committed to contributing our quota to ensure its success. This is a call to all those who share our vision—let us unite for the good of our people.”
While receiving the new members, the Deputy Chairman of the PDP in Jigawa State, Umar Danjani, who represented the State Chairman of the party at the event, warmly welcomed the defectors. He described their arrival as a major milestone for the party.
“Today signifies a critical turning point in our collective effort to strengthen and reposition our party,” Danjani stated.
“We are elated to receive such a large and motivated group of new members. Their experience, energy, and commitment will undoubtedly add value to our ongoing political and developmental agenda.”
Danjani reiterated the PDP’s dedication to inclusivity and to addressing the numerous challenges facing the people of Jigawa State and the nation at large.
“Our mission as a party is to improve the lives of all Nigerians, irrespective of their social or political background. With unity and determination, we will continue to push for policies and initiatives that reflect the true aspirations of the people. Together, we will build a more just, equitable, and prosperous Nigeria.”
The mass defection is seen by political observers as a blow to the APC in the state and a potential boost for the PDP’s political strength ahead of future electoral contests.
