Zulum Reshuffles Cabinet, Appoints New Education Board Chairman

In a bid to strengthen governance and improve service delivery across Borno State, Governor Babagana Umara Zulum has approved the removal of two commissioners from his cabinet while simultaneously announcing new appointments to fill key government positions.

The decision was announced in an official statement released on Thursday by the Governor’s spokesperson, Dauda Iliya, in Maiduguri, the state capital.



According to the statement, the Commissioner for Environment, Engineer Emet Kois, and the Commissioner for Intergovernmental Affairs and Special Duties, Hon. Tukur Ibrahim Shani, have been relieved of their duties with immediate effect. Governor Zulum expressed gratitude for their service to the state and extended his best wishes to both men in their future endeavors.



To fill the vacancies, the governor appointed Engineer Mohammed Habib as the new Commissioner for Environment and Ibrahim Hala Hassan as the Commissioner for Intergovernmental Affairs and Special Duties.



In a related development, Governor Zulum also announced the appointment of Professor Yusuf Gana Balami as the new Executive Chairman of the Borno State Secondary Education Board.



Professor Balami, a renowned scholar in Educational Psychology, hails from Hawul Local Government Area in southern Borno. He began his career in public service with the Borno State Ministry of Education from 1984 to 1988 before joining the University of Maiduguri as a graduate assistant. Over the years, he rose through the academic ranks, eventually attaining the rank of professor in 2014.



Throughout his academic journey, Professor Balami has been a member of various professional organizations and has contributed extensively to the field of education through numerous publications as both lead author and co-author.



While congratulating him on the new appointment, Governor Zulum urged Professor Balami to bring his wealth of experience in both academic and administrative roles to bear in repositioning secondary education across Borno State.



The statement concluded by confirming that all new appointments had been formally communicated to the Borno State House of Assembly for legislative confirmation, in accordance with statutory procedures.
