World champions Chelsea young striker Marc Guiu will spend the 2025/26 season on loan at newly promoted Sunderland, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
The 19-year-old Spaniard, who joined Chelsea last summer from Barcelona for just €6 million via a release clause, has struggled for game time at Stamford Bridge and now heads to the newly promoted Premier League side in search of regular minutes.

Guiu had been linked with a move to Ipswich Town earlier this window—potentially as part of the deal that saw Liam Delap join Chelsea—but the Blues opted to keep him in the top flight rather than drop him to the Championship.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Sunderland will cover Guiu’s full salary, and the striker is expected to be a key part of head coach Regis Le Bris’ plans this season. The deal is a straight loan with no option to buy, meaning Guiu is expected to return to Chelsea next summer.
Despite his limited minutes since joining Chelsea, the club still believes in the young forward’s long-term potential, and hope a productive spell at Sunderland will aid his development.

Big-Spending Sunderland Add Another Name
Guiu becomes Sunderland’s ninth signing of a record-breaking summer after the Black Cats have already spent over €130 million in the transfer window, most notably signing former Arsenal Swiss midfielder Granit Xhaka for €15 million.
They’ve also smashed their club transfer record twice—first with the €23 million signing of Enzo Le Fée, then again with the €31.5 million acquisition of Habib Diarra. Simon Adingra also joined from Brighton for a reported €24.4 million.

Guiu’s arrival adds depth and youth to Sunderland’s attacking options as they gear up for their first season back in the Premier League.
