The Ekiti State Government has officially appointed His Royal Majesty, Oba Samuel Adejimi Adu Alagbado, the Ogoga of Ikere Ekiti, as the new Chairman of the Ekiti State Council of Traditional Rulers.

This comes following the conclusion of the statutory tenure of the immediate past chairman, Oba Ayorinde Ilori-Faboro, the Olojudo of Ido Ekiti.



The decision was made public on Thursday through an official statement signed by the Deputy Governor, Chief (Mrs.) Monisade Afuye. According to the statement, Oba Adu Alagbado’s appointment follows the expiration of the two-year tenure of the former council chairman, who was appointed by Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji on July 31, 2023.

The leadership structure of the Ekiti Council of Traditional Rulers is typically rotated among monarchs of different ranking and zones to promote equity and inclusion within the royal institution.



Oba Adu Alagbado, a highly respected and influential monarch in the state, will now assume the position as head of the traditional council, a body tasked with advising the government on matters related to culture, tradition, community development, and grassroots governance.

His Royal Majesty is known for his forthrightness, deep knowledge of Ekiti customs, and longstanding commitment to the welfare of his people and the preservation of Yoruba tradition.



The date for the official swearing-in ceremony, which is to be conducted by Governor Oyebanji, will be announced in due course. The ceremony is expected to bring together traditional rulers, government officials, and dignitaries from across the state to formally usher in the new leadership of the council.

In the same statement, the Ekiti State Government expressed profound appreciation to the outgoing chairman, Oba Ilori-Faboro, and members of his council for their patriotism, dedication, and collaborative spirit throughout their tenure. The government commended their unwavering support in safeguarding the relevance of the traditional institution while contributing meaningfully to the progress of governance and development across the state.



Furthermore, the government congratulated Oba Adu Alagbado on his new role and expressed confidence in his ability to bring unity, wisdom, and progressive leadership to the council. The administration wished him a fulfilling and impactful tenure, noting that his appointment reflects the government’s continued commitment to respecting traditional institutions and fostering inclusive leadership at all levels.



The Council of Traditional Rulers in Ekiti State plays a critical advisory role in the overall governance structure of the state. It serves as a bridge between the government and grassroots communities, ensuring that local concerns, cultural preservation, and communal harmony are addressed in alignment with the state’s development goals.



With this new leadership, the state government anticipates stronger cooperation between traditional institutions and public authorities in driving sustainable development, peace, and cultural preservation throughout Ekiti.
