Manchester United manager Rúben Amorim says he is pleased with Rasmus Højlund’s form after the striker scored and impressed in the club’s 4-1 win over Bournemouth in the Premier League US Summer Series.

Højlund opened the scoring in Chicago with a brilliant header from Patrick Dorgu’s pinpoint cross, delivering a strong performance just hours after reports emerged that RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Šeško has become a top transfer target for United.

Højlund endured a difficult season under Amorim last term, leading to speculation about his future. Reports in Italy earlier this summer suggested AC Milan were considering a move for the 21-year-old, while United’s pursuit of another striker continues regardless of his status.

Speaking after the game, Amorim praised Højlund’s all-round display.

“The important thing is that people focus on the goals—and we suffered a lot last season because of the lack of goals,” Amorim said.

“But it’s not just the goals. The way he connects the play every time we have to kick long, his ability to hold off defenders and bring others into the game—this is helping us a lot. We are playing better because he’s playing better.”

When asked specifically about United’s interest in Šeško and what that might mean for Højlund, Amorim declined to offer much detail but reaffirmed his support for his current striker.

“I’m really happy with Rasmus. I don’t know what is going to happen until the end of the market.

The important thing is that the strikers who are here are working really well, are improving, and are helping the team. That is the most important thing.”

As the transfer window continues, speculation around Manchester United’s striker situation is expected to intensify—but for now, Rasmus Højlund is making a case to remain at the heart of Amorim’s plans.

United will wrapped up their Summer Series campaign in the US this weekend against Everton as Amorim fine-tunes the squad ahead of the new Premier League season with their opener against Arsenal scheduled for August 17.
