The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 24-year-old woman, identified as Somtochukwu Nwafor, in connection with the gruesome murder and dismemberment of a pregnant nurse whose mutilated body was recently found dumped in a soakaway pit in Ogbunike, Oyi Local Government Area of the state.

According to a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, the suspect was apprehended on July 25, 2025, with the help of vigilant residents of Umueri village, Ogbunike. The community’s cooperation was instrumental in tracking down and arresting the suspect.
During police interrogation, Nwafor confessed to being the girlfriend of the primary suspect, one Chiemerie Obika Elobisi, a resident of the same village who is currently on the run.
She admitted that Elobisi was responsible for luring the victim—a trained nurse—to his residence under the false pretense of seeking medical attention. Once the unsuspecting woman arrived, she was murdered in cold blood.

The suspect further revealed that she was summoned by Elobisi to clean up blood stains after the act had been committed. In a chilling confession, she also disclosed that the victim’s body parts were harvested and subsequently sold to several traditional healers, described by authorities as “evil native doctors” operating in the area.
Acting on this confession, operatives of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) launched a targeted raid in the early hours of July 29, 2025.
Their operation led them to a shrine allegedly owned by one Nwafor Chibunna Ofornwatadile, a native doctor from Itima Amawa Village, Ogbunike. During the raid, police discovered and recovered what appeared to be human body parts, wrapped and concealed in plastic (cellophane) bags.
In response to the horrifying incident, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has unequivocally condemned the crime, describing it as “inhumane, criminal, and an affront to public morality and the sanctity of life.” He also reiterated the command’s commitment to ensuring justice is served.
The Police Command has since launched a manhunt for the fleeing Elobisi and other suspected collaborators and buyers of the human remains.
CP Orutugu urged members of the public to come forward with any useful information that could aid the ongoing investigation. He assured potential informants that their identities and safety would be fully protected.
