The International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) Nigeria has announced that its 26th Annual General Meeting (AGM) will be held on Thursday, July 31, 2025, in Lagos, with a major emphasis on strengthening maritime trade and charting a renewed strategic direction for Nigeria’s business ecosystem.

According to ICC Nigeria’s Secretary-General, Olubunmi Osuntuyi, this year’s AGM is positioned as a platform for deep reflection, accountability, and forward-thinking dialogue among stakeholders, in alignment with the global mission of the ICC—to promote international trade, foster responsible business conduct, and uphold the rule of law.
“The AGM presents an important opportunity for reflection, accountability, and forward planning as we continue to align our activities with ICC’s global mandate,” Osuntuyi stated.
A central highlight of the event will be a keynote lecture by Mr. Pius Ukeyima Akutah, MON, Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council. Titled “Shipping and Maritime Trade: The Backbone of International Trade,” the lecture is expected to offer critical insights into the role of maritime logistics in global commerce and how Nigeria can better position itself in this domain.
The AGM will also feature the formal induction of new member organizations and firms into ICC Nigeria. These include:
OA&C Legal
Summit Field
Woodhall Capital Ltd
Power Afric Energy Services
Anaje Olumide Oke Akinkugbe
Harris-Isa, Omoloju & Co
Optimus Bank Ltd
Yakubu Maikasuwa
Toki Mabogunje & Co.

This fresh intake is expected to further bolster the Chamber’s capacity to deliver on its mandate and widen participation in global trade frameworks.

Among the major activities lined up for the meeting are:
Presentation of the 2024 Annual Report and Audited Financial Statements
Review of Nigeria’s engagement with ICC Global Commissions and Taskforces
Adoption of strategic priorities for the 2025–2026 period
Elections into key leadership positions within the Chamber
The AGM is expected to attract a broad range of participants, including business leaders, policymakers, maritime stakeholders, financial experts, legal practitioners, and development partners—all united in the shared goal of enhancing Nigeria’s competitiveness in global trade.
As the Nigerian National Committee of the International Chamber of Commerce—the world’s largest business organization with a presence in over 100 countries—ICC Nigeria plays a pivotal role in shaping the future of commerce. The body actively advocates for private-sector-friendly policies in areas such as trade facilitation, investment arbitration, digital transformation, sustainability, and ethical business practices.
By making maritime trade a focal point in this year’s AGM, ICC Nigeria signals its commitment to unlocking new opportunities in a sector that remains the lifeblood of international commerce, especially for an economy like Nigeria’s with extensive coastal access and rising port activity.
