Tragedy has struck the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA in Anambra State as the son of the party’s Women Leader, Mrs. Esther Chinyere, was gruesomely murdered after being kidnapped by unknown gunmen.
The victim, identified as Ifesinachi Onyekere, was a well-known businessman and the Managing Director of Fish Magnet Outlet.
The horrific incident occurred on Saturday evening, July 27, 2025, in Ezinifite village, located within the Okpuno community in Awka, the capital city of Anambra State. Armed assailants reportedly stormed the victim’s residence, shot him in the leg, and abducted him to an unknown destination.
Confirming the development, the spokesperson of the Anambra State Police Command, Superintendent Tochukwu Ikenga, issued an official statement on Wednesday, July 30, 2025.
According to him, the Police Commissioner, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has directed all tactical and intelligence units within the state to intensify their search and bring the perpetrators of the crime to justice.
“The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, fwc MNIPS PhD, has instructed the tactical and intelligence teams to redouble efforts in tracking down the criminals responsible for the abduction and subsequent killing of Mr. Ifesinachi Onyekere,” the statement read.
The statement further disclosed that the victim’s navy blue Toyota Corolla was recovered by a Joint Security Team, consisting of officers from the Nigeria Police Force and operatives of the Anambra Vigilante Group, along the Ukwulu/Igbariam road.
Preliminary investigations have revealed that the kidnappers had trailed Onyekere prior to the attack. It was during the ambush at his residence that he was shot and forcefully taken by the assailants. Tragically, he was later found dead, sparking widespread outrage and sorrow among residents of Awka and beyond.
The heinous act has drawn sharp condemnation from the local community, political associates, and family members, who are demanding swift justice and greater protection from security agencies.
As the police intensify their investigations, the public remains hopeful that those behind the cruel killing will soon be apprehended and prosecuted.
