The Katsina State Police Command has successfully thwarted two separate kidnap attempts in Sabuwa Local Government Area, leading to the rescue of 28 abducted victims. However, the incidents, which occurred on Monday and Tuesday, tragically claimed three lives.

This was disclosed in a statement issued by the spokesperson of the Command, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Abubakar Sadiq, who highlighted the operations as part of intensified efforts to curb the menace of kidnapping and armed banditry under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, CP Bello Shehu.

According to DSP Sadiq, the first incident occurred on Monday, July 28, 2025, around 11:27 p.m., when armed bandits stormed Zagaizagi village in Sabuwa LGA. The criminals launched a violent attack, abducting several residents and rustling livestock.

In response to the distress situation, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) swiftly mobilised operatives to the area. A fierce exchange of gunfire ensued between the police and the bandits. The police successfully repelled the attack, rescued 14 kidnapped victims, and recovered two stolen cows. Unfortunately, two residents were fatally shot by the attackers during the incident.

The second incident occurred the following day, Tuesday, July 29, 2025, at approximately 9:24 a.m. A Good Samaritan alerted the police that suspected bandits had barricaded the Sabuwa–Kaya Road near Inno Junction and abducted 14 travellers. Acting swiftly, the DPO again mobilised police operatives to the scene.

Upon arrival, the officers engaged the bandits in a gun battle. Overwhelmed by the superior firepower and tactical response of the police, the criminals fled, abandoning the captives. All 14 abducted persons were rescued unharmed. Regrettably, a 27-year-old man identified as Abba, from Funtua town in Funtua LGA, was shot and killed by the fleeing attackers.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Bello Shehu, commended the operatives for their courage and prompt action in rescuing the victims and restoring order. He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to the protection of lives and property throughout Katsina State.

Additionally, the police spokesperson noted that efforts are ongoing to track down and apprehend the fleeing suspects involved in both attacks.

CP Shehu further appealed to residents of the state to collaborate with law enforcement agencies by providing credible and timely information that can aid in combating criminal activities.

“The Katsina State Police Command remains unwavering in its commitment to safeguarding communities and ensuring the security of every citizen,” the statement concluded.
