Newly appointed Sporting Director of Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC), Tobi Adepoju, has called on fans and supporters of the club—both at home and in the diaspora—to rally behind the new management team.

He also urged patience as they embark on a long-term project aimed at restoring the club’s former glory, noting that meaningful progress will take time.

Adepoju, whose appointment marks a fresh era in football administration at the historic Ibadan-based club, made the appeal during a media chat with the club’s media and communications team, where he shared insights into his vision, background, and expectations.

“A Dream Come True”

When asked what it means to join a club of 3SC’s stature, Adepoju described the opportunity as a dream job and a personal milestone.

“It’s a great privilege to be part of this project. I grew up supporting Shooting Stars as a 10-year-old boy. I spoke with my wife, family, and friends, and they all supported my decision to take this job,” he said.

“We all know Shooting Stars is one of the biggest clubs in Nigeria—with multiple league and cup titles and a passionate, organic fan base.”

Timing and Vision

On why he felt now was the right time to take on the role, Adepoju pointed to his recent experience in football administration and his readiness to help restructure the club.

“Shooting Stars needs to be repositioned. I believe my three years of experience and administrative expertise will help us build the right structure to get back to the top level.”

“With the knowledge and capacity I’ve gained, I’m here to make an impact,” he added.

Identity, Culture, and Legacy

Adepoju also highlighted the unique identity of Shooting Stars and its deep-rooted cultural ties to the city of Ibadan.

“Ibadan is an ancient city with a rich history. Shooting Stars has amazing stories, including being the first Nigerian club to win a continental title—the 1976 CAF Cup Winners’ Cup. This club is truly special.”

He emphasized the generational fanbase of 3SC as one of its most valuable assets.

“Shooting Stars is the only club in Nigeria with visible fan progression—where passion is passed from parents to children, like we see in Europe. I started supporting the club at 10, and now I’m in a position to serve it.”

Passion and Commitment

Adepoju reaffirmed his commitment to the club, promising to give everything in his new role.

“I love this club. I’ve worked with previous administrations as a consultant, and now I’m here to give 100% as Sporting Director. I bring energy, passion, and experience to take 3SC back to the top, both nationally and in Africa.”

However, he stressed that the club’s resurgence cannot happen without the fans.

“We cannot do it alone. We need the fans’ full support.”

A Call for Patience

Addressing fans directly, Adepoju asked for understanding as the new leadership sets a foundation for long-term success.

“It’s our first year. It won’t be easy, and we’re in a restructuring phase. The chairman, COO, and staff have been amazing, but we need time. One year is not enough to judge—by the third year, we hope to achieve real greatness.”

He concluded with a heartfelt appeal:

“We need fans to support us genuinely. Come to the stadium, be passionate about the club, and allow us to build. When we stabilize, trophies and continental football will follow. This club is bigger than any individual. We’re here today, gone tomorrow—but we want to leave a legacy of structure, growth, and success.”

Looking Ahead

As 3SC prepare for the 2025/26 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season, with their opening fixture against Bayelsa United set for next month, optimism is building that this new era under the club chairman, Hon. Taiwo Lekan-Salami’s leadership could herald a return to glory days—both at home and on the continental stage.
