The Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) in Kenya has announced a list of prohibited items for fans attending matches at stadiums during the tournament, which will run from August 2 to 30, 2025.
In a move aimed at improving security, crowd control, and overall fan experience, the LOC has banned noise-making items such as whistles, vuvuzelas, megaphones, and loudspeakers—a surprising decision given their long-standing popularity among African football fans.

Security-Focused Restrictions
The banned list includes 13 categories of items, covering both security threats and fan-related disturbances. Expectedly, firearms, explosives, knives, and other harmful objects are strictly prohibited. However, the inclusion of cheering tools like vuvuzelas and whistles is generating mixed reactions from fans.
Also banned are:
Helmets, Illegal drugs, Signal-blocking devices, Offensive banners, or materials targeting politics, race, or religion Packaged food, unless purchased within the stadium premises.
Multi-Nation Hosting and Group A Fixtures
This year’s edition of CHAN is the first to be jointly hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda. A total of 19 teams will compete across five venues in the three countries.
Kenya will host matches at:
Moi International Sports Centre (55,000 capacity), Nyayo National Stadium (18,000 capacity), both in Nairobi.
These venues will stage Group A fixtures, featuring host nation Kenya, along with Morocco, Angola, DR Congo, and Zambia.

Nigeria’s Challenge in Group D
Nigeria’s Super Eagles B are drawn in Group D, where they will play their matches in Tanzania. The group includes:
Senegal (defending champions) Sudan and Congo.

This will be Nigeria’s return to the tournament after missing the last edition. The team, led by Coach Eric Chelle, will be aiming for a maiden CHAN title after finishing as runners-up in 2018.
