President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has conferred national honours on the Super Falcons and their technical crew following their historic comeback victory over Morocco in the final of the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
At a reception held Monday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, the President awarded each of the 24 players and 11 technical crew members the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON).

In addition, Tinubu approved the allocation of three-bedroom apartments in the Renewed Hope Housing Estate, Abuja, to every player and member of the coaching staff. He also directed the payment of a cash reward — the naira equivalent of $100,000 to each player and $50,000 to each technical crew member.
“I hereby confer on the players and the 11-man technical team the national honours of the Officer of the Order of the Niger,” Tinubu said during the ceremony.
“Additionally, I have directed the allocation of three-bedroom apartments in the Renewed Hope Housing Scheme. Then there is the cash award of the naira equivalent of $100,000 to each of the 24 players and $50,000 to the 11-man technical crew.”

The President also shared a lighter moment, admitting he couldn’t bring himself to watch the final live.
“I didn’t want to have high blood pressure,” he joked, referring to Nigeria’s dramatic rally from 2–0 down at half-time to beat host nation Morocco 3–2 in Rabat on Saturday.
As part of further appreciation, the Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF), represented by its Chairman and Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, announced a cash donation of ₦10 million to each team member.
The players and technical staff arrived at the Aso Rock Villa shortly before 4:36 p.m., conveyed in coaster buses. They were received by the President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, before meeting with President Tinubu and First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu.

During a post-match video call on Saturday night, the President had already praised team captain and tournament MVP Rasheedat Ajibade for her leadership and outstanding performance. He commended the entire team for embodying the Nigerian spirit of resilience and unity.

The Super Falcons’ 3–2 comeback win earned them a record-extending 10th WAFCON title, adding to previous triumphs in 2014, 2016, 2018, and now 2024. Over the past decade, they have won four of the last five editions of the tournament, cementing their status as Africa’s dominant force in women’s football.
