Super Falcons striker, Asisat Oshoala, has dismissed rumours suggesting she has retired from international football, describing the claims as “baseless.”
Oshoala addressed the speculation on Saturday while speaking to reporters in Morocco, shortly after Nigeria’s dramatic 3-2 victory over the host nation in the final of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

“I don’t know where that came from,” said the six-time African Player of the Year. “I get it, but I’m not bothered. I’m still here. I’m still playing. I’m still doing my job. That’s what I’m focused on.”
Reflecting on the Super Falcons’ hard-fought win, Oshoala used the occasion to inspire younger players and supporters.
“I just think from today’s game, what I would say is: don’t give up. Keep fighting until the end,” she said. “There’s always a light at the end of the tunnel—if you believe. Only if you believe.”
The 29-year-old striker added that she remains committed and prepared to contribute whenever called upon:
“To be honest with you, I’m always ready. I always tell my girls: stay ready. Anytime you can get called upon. And when you do, go out there and show yourselves.”

Oshoala made her senior international debut in 2013 under then-interim coach Edwin Okon during a friendly match against Japan. She rose to prominence at the 2014 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Canada, where she was named Best Player and finished as top scorer with seven goals.
Her contributions over the past decade have helped establish Nigeria as a dominant force in African women’s football, with the recent WAFCON title adding to her already illustrious international career.
