Luis Díaz is on the verge of completing a high-profile move to Bayern Munich after the German champions agreed a deal worth €75 million (£65.5m), including add-ons, with Liverpool.

The Colombian international has been given permission to leave Liverpool’s pre-season tour in Asia and travel to Europe to finalise personal terms and complete a medical in the coming days.

The 28-year-old winger was left out of the squad for Saturday’s 4-2 friendly loss to AC Milan in Hong Kong, amid intensifying speculation over his future. Liverpool had initially rejected a lower offer of £58.6m from Bayern earlier this month, but the Bundesliga champions returned with an improved package to get the deal over the line.

New Chapter After Productive Anfield Spell

Díaz joined Liverpool from FC Porto in January 2022 for an initial £37m fee and quickly became a key figure under then-manager Jürgen Klopp. In 148 appearances, he scored 41 goals, including 13 in Liverpool’s Premier League-winning campaign last season.

The 2024–25 season was the most productive of Díaz’s career, with 17 goals across all competitions. His 18.3% shot conversion rate marked a personal best in a Premier League season, underlining his growing efficiency in front of goal.

Why Bayern Want Díaz

Bayern Munich have moved decisively for Díaz to bolster their attack, particularly with Jamal Musiala sidelined for an extended period due to a broken leg and dislocated ankle sustained at the FIFA Club World Cup.

Díaz brings not just goals and flair, but also defensive commitment. He completed 52 successful dribbles, created 56 chances, and registered 18 combined goals and assists last season — placing him just outside the top 10 in all categories across the Premier League.

His 22 final-third ball recoveries were the most by any Liverpool player relative to minutes played, demonstrating a high defensive work rate that fits Bayern’s pressing style.

Liverpool’s Attack Reshaped

The Reds are already planning for life without Díaz. They’ve secured the signings of Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike, and remain interested in Newcastle striker Alexander Isak. These moves suggest a new-look frontline under Arne Slot, who is overseeing his first full season in charge at Anfield.

Díaz leaves Liverpool with a Premier League title, an FA Cup, and a Community Shield to his name, and his departure marks the end of a memorable spell on Merseyside.

Bayern Reload

For Bayern, Díaz is expected to slot in as a key wide forward option in an attack that already includes Harry Kane and Michael Olise. Despite scoring 99 goals in the Bundesliga last season, Bayern fell short in Europe and were knocked out of the German Cup early, prompting a push for attacking reinforcements.

The Colombian’s arrival signals Bayern’s intent to compete on all fronts again, as new manager Vincent Kompany looks to build a more dynamic and resilient squad.
